book design - beauty & simplicity in unison

Book design differs from other design disciplines as its products are created to have a certain permanency. It’s not just a case of choosing an appropriate look and feel, as a book’s intrinsic quality lies in its simplicity. Less is more. Our commissions come from publishers and organisations that require expertise in book jacket design, typography, layout and image editing to create works of beauty.

There are three major categories of published books: hardbacks that are designed for coffee tables, paperbacks for when you’re relaxing or travelling, and corporate books, which are designed to celebrate a milestone for an organisation. What implicitly connects these three different types of books is the inherent craft and skill required in designing and printing a quality publication, harking back to traditional skills of artistry and manufacture.

Creating a successful publication involves a considerable amount of knowledge gathering, planning and consultation with clients and authors in order to ensure the finished product achieves its stated aims effectively.

Our in-depth understanding of the publishing process, from the early stages of generating ideas, through to delivering consistently innovative creative solutions, our highly skilled team ensure your publication is visually engaging for your target audience.

We understand that it’s essential that an author’s subject matter and vocabulary be successfully mirrored in a book’s design. A jacket design is a vital part of the sales pitch, an advertisement with the task of prompting the reader to pick the book up. It’s essential in creating an impression of a books contents, which perform a very a different task in guiding the reader in a manner dictated by the size and choice of typeface(s) and layout.

This is also true for corporate books. There are many ways for organisations to get closer to their audience, and the physical presence and format of a beautifully designed and manufactured piece of print is an excellent way of achieving this. In a world of instant but short-lived electronic communication, some events can only be effectively celebrated and communicated through mechanisms that are unique to books, providing a vital marketing role when organisations complete a re-branding programme, reach a significant historical milestone, or win a major award.

At Tristan Green Design we’ve created a variety of highly effective publications that have achieved fantastic results, from poetry and prose, fiction and arts journals to corporate books, enabling our clients to get closer to their audiences by informing and engaging with them, helping to develop long-term relationships by creating a valuable dialogue that helps them to build trust and loyalty.
